"Frenchy Flamingo" - miniature drawing (SOLD)

Title: "Frenchy Flamingo" (SOLD)

Date: Jan 31, 2006

Medium: Prismacolor Colored Pencil & ink

Paper: 100lb Smooth Bristol

About this Project: This is not meant to be a lesson, I'm just showing a work in progress =)  This is Small Format Art (SFA) - artwork that is under 14" in any one direction.

Pic 1: The flamingo is inked, and I started the background in pencil using one curvy line. The rest of the background will be done freehand using ink only (no pencil).

Pic 2: I've started adding a bunch of funky designs to the background.

Pic 3: Added more detail to the background...this took a while.

Pic 4: Now I've started coloring the flamingo.

Pic 5: Here the flamingo is almost finished, I added more color & shading to the legs, face, and accessories.

Pic 6: To make Frenchy flamingo stand out more, I shaded a block behind her in gray ink & added a shadow behind her.

Pic 7: I cut off the excess paper & scanned the drawing with a dime for size reference.  Finished size: 1.5"x3".

I wish you would just stop these wip thingies. They are too seductive, they draw me in and wrap tight littl efingers around my heart... and make me bid on auctions I can't afford to bid on (but I'll be outbid anyway so that's okay!!! I see it as my mission to help drive prices up a little even if I can't afford things myself, lol)

Gorgeous. As ever. And FUNNY too :0))

Sal, that's one of the nicest things you've ever told me! :) You know I feel the same way about your work - I love it, I want it, I can't always afford it, but I'll still bid hoping to win. Your art is worth going broke over lol.
Glad you like Frenchy Flamingo, I needed to draw something that would make me laugh...:D

jane!!! you know i love this, and i want a pair of skates with bright pink wheels :) now when you ink your stuff, do you use a pen and a brush? just a brush? did you add water to ink to make gray? i'm just in awe...

Thanks JoE, I do love adding detail (especially in ridiculous amounts!) :)

Tami - I had white rollerskates with hot pink wheels when I was little (Loved Them!)
When I ink, I only use pen, I'm too sloppy for brushes, lol. For the gray I used a Pantone marker-type pen made by Letraset. I heard these pens were high quality so I got one. If you work quick enough with this pen, no streak marks will show and you can create a consistent large block of color nicely :)
